1. Transmission Media

Transmission media is a device that is useful for connecting small-scale (LAN) and large-scale (WAN) computer networks, this transmission medium is very important because without transmission media it is impossible for a network to be created, current transmission media are wired and wireless. The types of cables that we often use to build a network are UTP, STP, Coaxial and Fiber Optic cables, while the wireless devices we use are usually 2.4GHz wireless radios and 5GHz frequency complete with grid antennas.

2. Network Interface Card (NIC)

Network Interface Card (NIC) or commonly called a network card, is a physical interface that must be in place so that computers can connect to the network, in addition to PC / Laptop computers, other network devices such as HUBs, Switches and Routers also have NICs so they can be connected connected. There are several things that must be considered, namely the speed of the card interface and the type of port.

  • The speed of each interface card is of course different, for interface cards that people commonly use on normal PC computers only have a speed of 100Mbps, there is also a type of interface card that has a speed of 1000Mbps.
  • Port on the NIC of course it varies depending on the type of cable used, for PC / Laptop computers it is usually equipped with a NIC with an RJ45 connector port, an ADSL modem uses an RJ11 connector port some also use a BNC connector port for coaxial type cables, while routers usually use an RJ45 connector , however, some high end routers are usually equipped with an SPF port for the Fiber Optic connector.

3. Network Operating System (NOS)

Network Operating System is an operating system used to handle services on the network. Usually, in a network operating system there are services or services that are intended to serve requests from users such as DNS Server, FTP and others.

  • Connect each computer to the network so they can communicate with each other
  • Handling services such as DNS Servers, Mail Servers
  • Bandwidth management for users on the network

4. Types of Network Devices
